All North Carolina real estate licenses expire on June 30 of each year. To maintain a “Current” license, a licensee must pay the license renewal fee between May 15 and June 30.
Following is an overview of the reinstatement process and requirements as of July 1, 2017. See Rule 58A.0505 for a full explanation.

An applicant who holds an active salesperson or broker license in another state is not required to take the 75-hour Broker Prelicense course and need only pass the "State" section of the license examination. |

Must be filed with original application fee and criminal background check upon successful completion of Broker Prelicense course. Once application is processed, the applicant will be provided exam registration instructions. |
INACTIVE PROVISIONAL BROKER
To be active, PB must affiliate with a Broker-in-Charge and submit form REC 2.08. If the license is reinstated more than 3 years after expiration/revocation/surrender, the applicant will be required to complete Prelicensing education as if a new licensee. PB will be required to complete Postlicensing education as if a new licensee. Upon reinstatement, the license status of an applicant who holds an active Broker license in another state and passes the State portion of the NC license exam will be inactive "full" Broker. |
